Setting Goals In 2024

Hey there EA Society,

So, here we are, diving into the art of setting goals as Executive Assistants. It's a bit like juggling, isn't it? Goals, priorities, and maybe a few metaphorical flaming torches are thrown into the mix. Back in the early days of my EA journey, I stumbled upon SMART goals, and let me tell you, it was like finding the secret sauce to this chaotic circus. Now, fast forward to today, and I’m thrilled to share my insights to help you craft some genius SMART goals for the upcoming masterpiece that is 2024.

Let’s dissect SMART—because goals, like everything else in life, need a plan:

  • S - Specific: Let's not play the vagueness game. "Improve calendaring," you say? Great goal, but what does "improve" even mean? Picture this: "Enhance the accuracy and efficiency of scheduling appointments and meetings." Ah, yes, been there, done that—scheduling a meeting in the wrong time zone or inviting the wrong "Mike." It's practically a rite of passage, and fixing it became one of my SMART goals.

  • M - Measurable: Time to put on our data hats. Instead of a wishy-washy "reduce errors," let's get real: "Reduce scheduling errors by 25% within the next two months." Numbers, my friend, because tracking progress is like having a roadmap. Personally, I'd tally up invites daily and keep a scorecard of every change made.

  • A - Achievable: Now, here's where reality meets ambition. "Implement a new process for calendaring to ensure all information is accurate and cross-checked before sending the invite." Sounds a bit tedious, I know. But hey, sometimes we need to take a step back and relearn how to adult, right?

  • R - Relevant: We're not setting goals in a vacuum. "Improving calendaring aligns with the goal of enhancing the overall efficiency of my role and experience for those I work with." Because, let's face it, my efficiency affects the sanity of the entire squad.

  • T- Time: Setting check-ins or mini-goals keeps me on my toes. For our calendaring escapade, I'd mark a date every two months to evaluate progress. It's like a reality check but without the dramatic music.

S-Specific

M- Measurable

A- Achievable

R- Relevant

T- Time

As you embark on the quest of crafting your SMART goals for 2024, remember—each letter is a superhero in its own right. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Here's to a year of strategic goal-setting filled with a dash of sarcasm and heaps of professional brilliance.

Cheers,

Abby
